Here at Boutique Apartments, we all have our favorite buildings. This week we’ll wax poetic (or at least try) about Lodge, located at 1443 Elizabeth Street. And if you’re moved by what you read, you can stop by our Open House at Lodge this Saturday, January 28, from 11 am - 1 pm, and see what all the fuss is about.

Here then, are our top 10 reasons to live at Lodge:

The efficient kitchen is made for entertaining, with a built-in dining counter, ample counter space, and a dishwasher.

The private patio has a firepit and gas grill; perfect for those impromptu summer gatherings.

Rooftop deck, ‘nuff said.

Entertainment room with TV, foosball table and lending library.

The clever sign murals painted by Denver’s own Sam Sutton.

Street parking is easy if the reserved spots are taken.

It’s only a few blocks from City Park, where you can walk your under-35-lb dog.

How do you make a studio apartment fashionable and functional, without spending a lot of money?

We asked Heidi, a Boutique Apartments resident who lives in a studio at H2O, and whose 350 s.f. apartment is up for voting in Apartment Therapy’s “Room for Color” contest, and here are her responses:

How long have you lived in your Boutique Apartment, and where did you move from?
I moved from Denver to New York in April 2011. I had worked in the snowboard industry for years on the East Coast, and it was always a dream to make it out west. So, I packed my Subaru, and did it.

More specifically I moved to Boutique Apartment’s H2O because of the aesthetics and neighborhood. And, why wouldn’t you want sea monkeys in the laundry room?!

What do you do for a living?
Right now I work from home, running 2 vintage Etsy shops, and I just signed on with SEE Eyewear for some part time showroom work.

What was the biggest challenge with furnishing your studio apartment?
Budget. Mostly because I have a storage unit in New York filled with furniture, and didn’t want to worry about buying and then moving expensive pieces from out here back home one day.

Where do you shop for furnishings?
I go on the road 1-2 days a week, buying for my Etsy shop, so most of my furnishings have come from second hand and thrift stores. Oh, and let’s get real. I was definitely at IKEA the first week it opened.

What tips can you offer for residents looking to furnish their apartments on a budget?
Patience. I feel like too often people think they need to fill the whole space as soon as they move in. I find it’s much better to let it evolve and find pieces one by one that fit each other.

Any specific interior design tips?
Pull tear sheets from magazines of rooms you like, and use them for reference. Or digitally reference online shelter mags.

Are there benefits you’ve discovered of living in a small apartment?
I’ve actually lived in a studio that was smaller than this one before. I think it’s always refreshing to realize how how little you need to live comfortably!

Thanks, Heidi, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. You can check out Heidi’s stellar fashion sense in her entry in the Room for Color contest, and at her vintage Etsy shop.

One of the many things more enjoyable than watching paint dry is watching paint get recycled … into new paint.

Today we said goodbye to about 350 gallons of old paint, accumulated throughout the years at different Boutique Apartments buildings, and wished it well on its journey to become new paint, courtesy of Justin and Kyle of Mix Paints.

Mix Paints is Denver’s first paint recycling company and is a great option for anyone including residents, contractors, businesses and organizations. They’ll take your latex paint in good condition and through an intensive mixing and filtering process, turn it into “post-consumer latex paint,” called Spectrum PCL. Spectrum PCL is formulated for interior and exterior use, is available in 64 designer colors, and is easy on the environment. The experts at Mix Paints can also custom-match just about any color or sheen.

Every day hundreds of thousands of people throw away unused paint, which ends up in landfills, or worse, poured down the drain and into our water. Mix Paints is dedicated to closing the loop by working with the community and creating an outlet for people to responsibly dispose of unused paint, while providing a valuable product.

Boutique Apartments is grateful for Mix Paints’ dedication and service. Not only did it free up a bunch of our storage space, but we can sleep better knowing that our paint is being recycled and not going to the landfill.

If you want to recycle your unused paint, buy affordable paint, or even hire a painter, contact Justin or Kyle at Mix Paints.

Okay, so you’re not ready to don gardening gloves and grow your own veggies this summer, but you still want farm-fresh produce?

Try out a local farmer’s market. Denver has quite a few, most notably the City Park Esplanade Farmer’s Market on Sundays from 9 am - 1 pm (and very close to Lodge, Works, and Metropolis), and the Cherry Creek Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 9 am - 1 pm (nearest to Prana, Red Fort, and Metropolis).

There are also some other great neighborhood markets, including Old South Pearl Farmer’s Market on Sundays, and the one in the Highlands neighborhood, on Saturdays.

Last Tuesday, Boutique Apartments staff spent the day “beautifying” many of its apartment buildings, by planting flowers in the beds at Aperture, Rocket, Shambhala, Lodge, Works and Le Cirque. A yearly tradition, “BA Beautification Day” allows our team to work together to add a little something special to these buildings.

The flower beds may look a bit sparse now, but by the middle of summer, they should be flourishing! Check out some of the photos on our Flicker page.

Happy Earth Day, everyone! Did you know you can do your part to help reduce hydrocarbons by signing your apartment up for Xcel Energy’s WindSource program? Read on for all the details ...

We currently get all the electricity used in the common areas of the Boutique Apartment buildings from wind power, instead of from coal. But if you’re a BA resident currently paying an electric bill directly to Xcel Energy, why not consider helping us reach our goal of being 100% wind-powered, by having your apartment’s electricity come from wind? It’s easy, the cost is minimal, and the benefits are astounding.

Based on EPA Power Profiler statistics, buying one 100 kWh block of Windsource for a year has the following environmental benefits:

Carbon dioxide avoided: 2,449 lbs.
Miles not driven: 2,400
Trees planted: 1/3 acre

You can sign up easily online at Xcel’s web site, or contact our main office at 303.333.3773 for more information. Qualification may vary from building to building.
